Remco Evenepoel's start to the 2025
Tour de France has been far from ideal. After losing time on stage 1, the Belgian crashed on stage 3. Whilst the incident thankfully came close enough to the finish line that he didn't lose any further time, it was still an added moment of stress that the
Soudal - Quick-Step leader could have done without.
Speaking to Eurosport ahead of stage 4 on Tuesday, Evenepoel addressed exactly what happened in the crash, and how he's feeling after having had a night to recover. “I’m good, nothing crazy,” begins the double Olympic champion. “It was a pretty slow crash. They crashed in front of me, and I tried to break but the bunch always makes a movement to avoid a crash, and I think I was on the wrong side on the right. I touched the wheel of a guy in front of me and went down, so nothing crazy to worry about.”
Keen to stress that there are no lingering issues as a result of the crash, Evenepoel also eyed a potential move on stage 4. “I guess the only part I don’t like is to get into position,” he said of the frantic nature of the finales so far this Tour de France. “There’s going to be one really crucial point today to get into a good position and after that it’s going to be the legs that speak."
“Once I get into a good position, I do like it, but I think for everyone, the nervousness to get into position is going to be hectic again," previews the former Vuelta a Espana champion in conclusion. "But the sprinters are not going to be in the mix, so it’s going to be a little bit different. A pretty beautiful finale to watch, I guess.”
