Seemingly every few weeks or months, the stories emerge again that Remco Evenepoel is nearing the exit door at Soudal - Quick-Step. Whilst this hasn't proven true so far, the recent rumours suggest that Evenepoel himself is trying to force through a move to Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe.
According to a report by the Escape Collective, Evenepoel is actively seeking a transfer to Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe. "Remco Evenepoel wants out at Soudal-Quick Step before his contract expires at the end of 2026," begins a major revelation from the team at Escape Collective. "Multiple sources close to the discussions, who were granted anonymity to protect their positions, have confirmed to Escape Collective that the 25-year-old double Olympic champion has opened talks with Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe about joining the German squad."
Because of these rumours, Soudal - Quick-Step boss Jurgen Fore was a key target for many of the Belgian media ahead of stage 3 at the 2025 Tour de France, with questions of where Evenepoel's future lies amidst the ongoing and seemingly never ending rumours of a potential transfer switch.
“Well, that took a while — three days," Fore laughed in comments collected by HLN at the start line, clearly not getting too worked up over the potential of his team leader moving to a rival team. "We’re used to it by now. This isn’t something that’s buzzing around within the team. We’re focused on the Tour. It’s all speculation, and we’re genuinely not losing any sleep over it.”
As Fore also notes, whilst Evenepoel may be the biggest star on the Soudal - Quick-Step team currently, he is far from the only rider. “As a team, we have other goals too,” the team boss concludes. “Remco isn’t Superman. He can’t race every event.”
