Primoz Roglic has had a
Giro d'Italia plagued by bad luck so far in 2025. Already already having lost time thanks to a crash earlier in the race, the Slovenian was once again caught out by an incident on stage 14, pushing the
Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe leader to 2:23 down on the Maglia Rosa, Isaac del Toro.
As the peloton raced toward what was shaping up to be a bunch sprint finish, disaster struck on the slick, narrow cobbles of Nova Gorica — a major crash brought down a large number of riders and disrupted over half the field. For Roglic, this marked the third time in a week that the former Maglia Rosa winner had hit the deck in a crash after the gravel stage 9 and in recon for the stage 10 individual time trial.
“In the end, I just have to accept it and try to make the best of the situation,” Roglic reflected in a post-stage interview afterwards with Val 202. “We knew it would be slippery, so we tried to stay up front. At that point, things were out of our hands, but our guys rode strong. We did everything we could. We'll keep reassessing things day by day.”
Roglic's great friend and compatriot
Jan Tratnik was one of the those tasked with helping his team leader limit losses and post-stage, he too spoke to the Slovenian media. “For me, it was actually my best day on the bike since my injury. I felt great, but unfortunately Primoz had more bad luck. I knew that descent and we were well positioned near the front. I also knew those cobbles would be slippery — sadly, the crash happened anyway,” he said. “From there, we had to chase, but the group ahead was simply too strong. We need to stay positive and hope that luck is finally on our side next week — when minutes, not seconds, will make the difference.”
