After a chaotic final 20km or so of stage 14, the 2025
Giro d'Italia has once again been turned on its head. Pencilled as a routine sprint stage, a major crash in the peloton held up a number of general classification hopefuls, seeing the likes of
Juan Ayuso,
Primoz Roglic,
Egan Bernal and
Antonio Tiberi all lose big amounts of time on the Maglia Rosa.
As has been the case throughout this Giro d'Italia to date,
Isaac del Toro was right where he needed to be when the crash happened, escaping any of the effects. Similarly,
Simon Yates also managed to avoid any drama and as a result, the Brit has risen to 2nd overall, 1:20 down on the Mexican race leader. Ayuso then follows, still on the podium but now 1:26 back on his teammate.
Richard Carapaz rises two places to 4th at 2:07, before Primoz Roglic, still in 5th on GC, but now significantly further back from the Maglia Rosa at 2:23.
Derek Gee and
Damiano Caruso were both big winners of the day, rising four places to 6th and 7th respectively, with Antonio Tiberi dropping from 3rd at the start of the day to 8th. Completing the top-10, INEOS Grenadiers duo Egan Bernal and
Thymen Arensman, with
Tom Pidcock now right on the cusp upper GC.
