Primoz Roglic was meant to start his season at the Volta a Catalunya, but a last-minute change has seen him start
Tirreno-Adriatico. He noticeably started the race with unshaved legs, but after taking the win on the race's first uphill stage he was convinced to change that.
“If I won, I'd cut my leg hair off. So now I can shave them, that was the deal. I have to clean up the mess," Roglic said within yesterday's press conference. He proved surprised to have the form to already open his tally in the season. In what was a sprint finish between the climbers and some puncheurs, the
Jumbo-Visma rider took a strong stage win and climbed up the overall classification.
"This is a very important moment, I've had some tough months. And not only me, but also my surroundings", he admitted. "Now we are back and then you appreciate it even more, those beautiful moments. It was a long time ago, a victory," Jumbo-Visma had Wout van Aert crash, but have positioned themselves strongly for the overall classification, with Wilco Kelderman also in the fight.
He was asked if he was going to do a recon of Giro d'Italia stages after the ending of Tirreno-Adriatico. "Maybe I should do that, yes. Thanks," he responded in traditional style. His participation in Catalunya is not assured with this change, but the big picture remains the Corsa Rosa for Roglic.
