Greg van Avermaet will bring his long and successful career to its final conclusion at the upcoming Paris-Tours as the 38-year-old Belgian's time in the peloton comes to an end.
A winner of two Tour de France stages, an Olympic gold medal, Tirreno-Adriatico, Paris-Roubaix, Gent-Wevelgem and more in his storied career, van Avermaet has struggled this year and recently announced it would be his final year as a professional bike rider.
Just two races now remain on the calendar for van Avermaet. Firstly the AG2R Citroën Team rider will have his final race on home soil at the Binche - Chimay - Binche / Mémorial Frank Vandenbroucke before lastly taking on Paris-Tour.
"Happy to be back in the bunch after illness," he wrote on X after riding the Circuit Franco Belge on Thursday. "The end of the season (and my career) is around the corner. Three more races left: Nationals gravel, Binche-Chimay-Binche and Paris-Tours."
