We take a look at the final startlist of the GP de Québec, which will take place on the 12th of September. We will see a long-awaited return of the World Tour peloton and racing to Canada, for what is the first of the two Canadian hilly classics.
The race has been held annually in Québec City since 2010. It was created as part of the UCI ProTour (since called World Tour) taking place just before its sister race in Montréal. Over the years, the GP de Québec has earned a reputation as a race for puncheurs and resilient climbers, rather than pure sprinters, relying on an explosive hilly circuit. The lap includes several demanding climbs, most notably the Côte de la Montagne, a short but steep ascent that regularly plays a decisive role. The finish is placed just after the final climb, with a false-flat drag to the line that makes timing and positioning absolutely crucial.
The event’s roll of honour includes some of the most accomplished classics riders of the modern era. Michael Matthews stands out as a three-time winner, while names like Peter Sagan, Simon Gerrans, and Robert Gesink have also claimed victory on the streets of Québec. The race was briefly interrupted in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic, and in 2026 it can serve as key preparation for the Montréal World Championships. Defending champion Michael Matthews will be starting off with the number 1, whilst the World Tour event hosts all 18 World Tour teams. Wildcards have been given to Lotto, Israel - Premier Tech, Uno-X Mobility and Tudor Pro Cycling Team; whilst there will also be a Canadian national team.
The race will feature top riders such as: Dorian Godon, Paul Lapeira, Roger Adrià, Jan Tratnik, Matej Mohoric, Fred Wright, Pello Bilbao, Jonas Abrahamsen, Tobias Johannessen, Corbin Strong, Quinn Simmons, Mattias Skjelmose, Michael Matthews, Biniam Girmay, Axel Laurance, Neilson Powless, Alberto Bettiol, Simone Velasco, Oscar Onley, Arnaud de Lie, Wout van Aert, Simon Yates, Jhonatan Narváez, Tadej Pogacar, Tim Wellens, Adam Yates, Alex Aranburu and Julian Alaphilippe.
