Great news arrived earlier this week from the Netherlands that on September 9, Annemiek van Vleuten and her partner Oscar Abad Suarez welcomed their first son: Alex Abad van Vleuten. Congratulations!
Van Vleuten disappeared from the professional peloton at the end of 2023 season after a very successful career. At the age of 41, the Dutchwoman understandably wished to enjoy her private life while still in her best years.
Over the 14 seasons at the top of the cycling world, Van Vleuten became twice a world champion in both road race and individual time trial, won Giro d'Italia Women four times, La Vuelta Femenina three times, the first edition of Tour de France Femmes and a plethora of the biggest one-day Classics.
Although 42-year-old Van Vleuten has retired from racing, she remains very active in cycling. She is currently a performance manager for the women's team Fenix-Deceuninck and works as an analyst for the NOS.
