We take a look at the startlist of the 2025 GP de Montréal, which will take place on the 14th of September. This is the second of the Canadian World Tour classics and is similar to the 2026 World Championships course, with Tadej Pogacar as a headliner.
The Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal follows two days after Québec. Since its first edition in 2010, the race has gained prestige as one of the most challenging one-day events on the WorldTour calendar, thanks to its relentless climbing around Mont Royal, where the 2026 World Championships will also take place. Each lap features a set of testing ascents. These climbs gradually wear down the peloton and set the stage for decisive moves in the final laps. The finish on Avenue du Parc is a long, uphill drag that rewards both endurance and timing, with reduced-group sprints or late solo attacks being common outcomes in the classic, one that suits the climbers better than Québec.
Past winners reflect the difficulty of the race. Greg Van Avermaet, Tadej Pogacar, Michael Matthews, Adam Yates, and others have all raised their arms here. The Montréal circuit is particularly well-suited to all-rounders and climbers who can handle repeated steep efforts, making it a different challenge than the punchier Québec race.Defending champion Tadej Pogacar will be starting off with the number 1, whilst the World Tour event hosts all 18 World Tour teams. Wildcards have been given to Lotto, Israel - Premier Tech, Uno-X Mobility and Tudor Pro Cycling Team; whilst there will also be a Canadian national team. There are 23 teams in total.
The race will feature top riders such as: Tadej Pogacar, Brandon McNulty, Tim Wellens, Adam Yates, Michael Matthews, Filippo Zana, Wout van Aert, Christophe Laporte, Simon Yates, Quinn Simmons, Juan Pedro Lopez, Mattias Skjelmose, Valentin Paret-Peintre, Luke Lamperti, Florian Lipowitz, Jan Tratnik, Quinten Hermans, Valentin Madouas, Pello Bilbao, Fred Wright, Matej Mohoric, Dorian Godon, Victor Lafay, Neilson Powless, Einer Rubio, Alberto Bettiol, Oscar Onley, Biniam Girmay, Alex Arnaburu, Arnaud De Lie, Joseph Blackmore, Tobias Johannessen, Jonas Abrahamsen and Julian Alaphilippe among others.
