Francis Lafargue, historically responsible for the public relations of all the teams related to Abarca Sports (now Movistar Team) for more than two decades, died on Thursday at the age of 68. The Frenchman leaves a huge void in the Telefonica family, which has said goodbye to him through an emotional statement.

MOVISTAR TEAM COMMUNIQUE.

"Movistar Team deeply regrets the loss of an 'alma mater' of its team, one of the essential personalities to understand its development as a structure. Francis Lafargue (Biarritz, FRA; 1955), head of public relations for the teams led by José Miguel Echávarri and Eusebio Unzué for almost five lustrums - Reynolds, Banesto, Illes Balears, Caisse d'Épargne and the current Movistar Team - has left us this Thursday.

Supporter of the Abarca structure since the 1983 Tour, when he was still working for the French Social Security -he had been a cyclist in the lower categories-, and staff professional from 1988 until 2011, Francis was a collaborator, manager, translator, confidant. He earned the respect and appreciation of the most mythical figures of Spanish and international cycling, such as Delgado, Gorospe or Indurain, always taking care of their image and facilitating their maximum sporting performance by dealing for them in front of the media and all kinds of environments.

His contribution to cycling, to which he remained linked until almost his death in other structures of our country, is as undeniable as the deep seal left by his affable personality and his impeccable work, part of the life of all those who coincided with him in the team.
