Jonas Vingegaard is the winner of the 2023
Tour de France. For a second year in a row, the Jumbo-Visma rider has won the overall classification with a stupendous performance in terms of climbing prowess and pure consistency.
The battle for the yellow jersey was the most dramatic one in the last few editions of the Tour, starting right from day one and two in the Basque Country where
Tadej Pogacar attacked on both stages with an answer from Vingegaard.
Adam Yates won on the first day and pulled on the yellow jersey. The first mountain stage on the fifth day saw a colossal breakaway with
Jai Hindley winning the stage and pulling on yellow despite being a strong podium contender, with Vingegaard taking over a minute on the competition.
The following day Jumbo-Visma and Jonas Vingegaard raided the route into Cauterets with the Dane pulling on the yellow jersey, however with Tadej Pogacar taking the stage win. Stage 9 into Puy de Dôme saw some more seconds pulled back, whilst stages 10 and 12 saw intense starts with the two standing out. Stages 13, 14 and 15 marked the entrance to the Alps but saw the two almost equally matched.
Stage 16 saw the time-trial where Vingegaard won for the first time with a big gap over the rest. The following day on stage 17, the Col de la Loze proved a climb too many for Pogacar who shed plenty minutes on the day and Vingegaard conquer the yellow jersey.
