Filippo Ganna, reigning World champion in the time-trial discipline, will be putting his abilities to the test today at the Critérium du Dauphiné as he looks to win the individual time-trial. With the Tour de France in sight, today is a big obstacle to overtake.
“I want to go to the Tour de France, obviously. We will see what the team says. Right now the plan is to go to the Tour, but we will wait for the decision of the team," he said at the start of stage three. Ganna has a long summer ahead with the Tour de France and the hour record in schedule for the coming months, however he will be hoping to succeed at the Dauphiné in anticipation to his two main goals of the period.
The Italian had a very strong start to the season, and although his classics campaign saw issues and lack of results, he is now refocusing on his speciality - the time-trials - to get back to winning ways.
“There are many favorites for the time trial, I will think about the time trial tomorrow [today]. It’s better to be focused on today’s stage," he said. The Italian saved himself during the last few stages and will be the man to beat on the 32-route into La Bâtie d’Urfé. The Italian has taken three stage wins already this year and will be looking to expand that tally today.
