Filippo Ganna tired but happy after his second victory at the Tour de Wallonie 2023. Already winner of the inaugural stage, the Ineos Grenadiers rider also won the fourth stage of the Belgian race, which included his specialty, the time trial.
"I don't know if I prefer a birthday like this or being on vacation, but it sure was one of the hardest time trials I've ever done," said Ganna. "I wasn't feeling very well, it's maybe three consecutive days of very intense racing, and my legs are a bit tired."
Although he wasn't at his best, the Italian was still able to beat the best time, which had been set by his young teammate Joshua Tarling: "We know that Josh is a really strong guy. He may be one of the strongest time trial riders. He is young, but he has a future."
A victory and a performance that gives confidence in view of the next goal, the World Championship in Glasgow: "Surely, these five days are a good block of efforts before the World Championships. It also gives me some enthusiasm to get there well, even with a win, that's really important to me."
