Ethan Hayter has not had the best start to his season, however he has racked up with first pro win at World Tour level today at the
Tour de Romandie as he was the fastest in the short technical prologue.
After the finish, the
INEOS Grenadiers rider shared his emotions regarding the performance: “Very nice to win here. I had some setbacks earlier this year and then took a break from racing. I trained hard and to come back like this is very nice.”
The British time-trial champion set off late in the day, however it was apparent that he was targeting a win as he soared off the starting ramp. The explosiveness needed for such a course suited him well, and he ended up holding off the time of the former World champion Rohan Dennis at the finish to win for the second time this year.
"The course suited me well. I thought, I'll give it a crack and it turned out well. The next few days are also good for me. I hope to win more stages and take the general classification with the team," he added.
With INEOS eyeing the overall classification, they can also be happy with Geraint Thomas who finished fourth and put himself in advantage in the GC fight against his rivals. “G has done a good time trial and things are looking good for the rest of the week. We have several options, so I'm curious how it will turn out," Hayter concluded.
