BORA - hansgrohe have significantly improved their climbing expectations with the signing of Primoz Roglic but he will not have the support of all riders who were part of the German team this year. Matteo Fabbro moves to EOLO - Kometa in search of more freedom.
This was a transfers that was already speculated on for several months. Recently the team has been announcing it's winter moves, as well as new sponsor Polti. The focus on Italian riders continues and the team seals it's 2024 roster with the 28-year old. "Ivan Basso has made a big bet on me, he has tried to convince me for a long time and this was very important for me: I felt loved, and joining this project became easier," Fabbro said in a press release.
"I come to a team that I have always admired, I know Davide and Mattia Bais well, but also all the other Italians, I think it will be easy and quick to integrate and get along with everyone else. I am a climber, my light physique adapts well to climbs and as soon as things get difficult I feel like a fish in water. But I have also learned to defend myself well in time trials," he continues. "A season to reinvent yourself. Let's say that since Covid I have had a series of physical problems that have limited me a lot, now I have left that period behind and I really want to start well. I dream of fighting again for the general classification of a grand tour, I am really very motivated: the Giro d'Italia is something unique, something special, I really want to race it."
Team manager Stefano Zannata reinstated his confidence in what is one of the team's main transfers of the year: "Fabbro is a very important addition to the team, he is a rider who has always raced in World Tour teams and this is undoubtedly a guarantee of results. With us he will have the opportunity to be the protagonist, the choice to come with us will allow him to get involved and find results: we will have to be up to the task by providing him with the best conditions so that he can demonstrate all his qualities."
