In mid-October, there still seemed a good chance that Domenico Pozzovivo would end his career, but now there is hope again for the 40-year-old climber. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Italian, whose contract with Israel-Premier Tech is expiring, is currently in talks with Corratec - Selle Italia.
"There are not many conversations," Pozzovivo told WielerFlits prior to the Giro del Veneto. "Honestly? I still have the legs and the motivation to continue, but if that doesn't work, I'll stop." He then indicated that he wanted to make a choice before the end of October, because he had already had to wait a very long time to sign a contract for the 2023 season.
Now the Italian, who celebrates his 41st birthday at the end of this month, is said to be talking to Corratec - Selle Italia about his future. Corratec - Selle Italia is a relatively new ProTeam, but was at the start of the Giro d'Italia last year. It is precisely that race that Pozzovivo wants to contest again. He has already participated his home Grand tour seventeen times, but with an eighteenth participation he would equal Wladimiro Panizza's record.
Corratec - Selle Italia, Pozzovivo's possible new employer, previously managed to strengthen itself with sprinters Niccolò Bonifazio, Kristian Sbaragli and Jakub Mareczko, all-rounder Mark Stewart and climber Alessandro Monaco. The team currently has fifteen riders under contract for 2024.
