Egan Bernal's return now seems to be a matter of time instead of a question, and as the season comes closer and closer to it's end, the return of Bernal to the peloton seems imminent, with a new race being reported to be the location for his big comeback.
Recently the organizer of the Vuelta a Espana, Javier Guillen, said that Bernal was likely to be at the start in Utrecht. Although early, the claims were backed by Bernal's current ramp-up in training, which has continuously seen him achieve power numbers not too far from his pre-crash outputs. Other race had been rumoured to be the possible stage for the Colombian's comeback, which is now said to be at the Deutschland Tour.
A rumour, however from Gazzetta dello Sport's Ciro Scognamiglio who has frequently anticipated big announcements. The race will take place from the 24th to the 28th of August in Germany, and presents a few hilly stages that could be to the liking of Bernal. However, the mere return to competition this season would be a miraculous turn of events, after Bernal almost lost his life back in January.
He had hinted at a comeback into the Italian classics, and it may be an objective for him to return to competitive in the closing month of the season.
