Bahrain - Victorious are on a roll in this classics campaign and they have obtained another surprising win as Dylan Teuns proved to be the strongest at the Mur de Huy today, winning La Flèche Wallone.
The breakaway consisted of Valentin Ferron (TotalEnergies), Bruno Armirail (Groupama-FDJ), Simon Gugliemi (Arkéa Samsic), Morten Hulgaard (Uno-X Pro Cycling Team, Daryl Impey (Israel - Premier Tech), Jimmy Janssens (Alpecin-Fenix), Pierre Rolland (B&B Hotels-KTM) and Chris Juul-Jensen (Team BikeExchange - Jayco).
From the peloton, Simon Carr attacked with 37 kilometers to go at Cherave, catching up with the remnants of the breakaway as in the peloton the big favourites looked to save themselves for the finale. He was caught close to the final ascent of it, where Rémy Rochas, Mauri Vansevenant and Soren Kragh Andersen made a move. The Dane stormed out of the peloton and attempted to surprise, as the lead-out to the Mur then started to close down the gap.
INEOS led-out in perfect position - despite Tom Pidcock's premature abandon - with Movistar taking control in the final meters in the lead-up to the sprint. Dylan Teuns was the first to launch a move with around 200 meters to go, and his explosiveness proved to be too much for the rivals, as no-one managed to go through him.
This was perhaps the most iconic victory in Teuns' career, having beaten Alejandro Valverde who almost looked to go through at the end and Aleksandr Vlasov who also surprised to finish on the final podium.
