Lennard Kämna wins stage three of the Tour of the Alps with successful breakaway move

Lennard Kämna has won the third stage of the Tour of the Alps after finding himself in the winning break of the day, and in the end putting in a stinging move inside the final kilometers to bring in the second win of the season for the BORA-hansgrohe rider.

Vadim Pronskiy, Andrey Amador, Lennard Kämna, Merhawi Kudus, Reuben Thompson, Will Barta, José Joaquin Rojas, Chris Hamilton, Jonathan Lastra, Natnael Testatsion, Unai Iribar and Torstein Traeen formed part of a breakaway early on in the day's flat start. It was a stage that would later see the riders head into the mountains, and the Passo Furcia which would prove decisive for the stage win.

Gaps weren't definitive though, as Pronskiy and Traeen went over the summit in front with 24 kilometers to go, but with the Norwegian crashing in the descent, several riders managed to come back to the head of the race during the descent. In the peloton, INEOS sparked several attacks throughout the climb, but Pello Bilbao promptly responded to them. DSM had Thymen Arensman race aggressively towards the end, cementing the gap to the chasing groups, but the battle for the stage win was in front.

Several attacks surged in the final kilometers which reduced the front group, in which Lennard Kämna took advantage of in the final kilometer to put a gap in the group. He went on to take the stage win, resisting the surge of Andrei Amador who finished second, and Jonathan Lastra who finished third.
