Cian Uijtdebroeks is following a consistent evolution within pro cycling, and the 20-year old continues to excel in the stage-races at the Tour de Suisse where he sits within the Top10 after a string of strong performances in the mountains.
"It was another tough but the guys were really committed today. We were in a good position the whole day, and they supported me really well," Uijtdebroeks said in a press release issues by BORA - hansgrohe, which he is leading this week in Switzerland. "Jonas [Koch] did a good job to position me well, and Max [Schachmann] also did a good job in the reduced group."
As Felix Gall soared to the stage win, the Belgian was among the small group of GC riders that battled among each other to deal blows in their own battles. Gall's is now for victory having overtaken Uijtdebroeks and all other riders in the GC, but the 20-year old tried climbing up too with several attacks. However, they were covered, and the collaboration of Mattias Skjelmose and Remco Evenepoel saw all other riders brought back in the final kilometers.
"In the end, it was a very explosive climb. I attempted several times to go clear form the small group, or react to attacks, but I was always brought back. In the end, we sprinted behind Gall and I'm pretty pleased with my fourth place," Uijtdebroeks concluded. He starts stage 5 in eighth place, however the 1:26 minute gap he has back on Gall means the GC could look very different by tonight.
