Cédrine Kerbaol wins rainy women's Tre Valli Varesine

Tre Valli Varesine has a men's and women's event this Tuesday and in the women's field, French rider Cédrine Kerbaol stunned to a solo victory in Varese after dropping her rivals in the many climbs of the final circuit.

The Italian race started off very early, so as to avoid collision with the men's race that will take place in the afternoon - almost intact, despite the very rough weather conditions. Heavy rain was present all throughout the morning but like warriors, many riders rode all-out in the hilly circuit around Varese.

Early in the 136-kilometer long race we already had the likes of Mavi García and Urska Zigart quite active, and we truly did not have a breakaway. With over 80 kilometers to go the peloton was already exploding with the main favourites in action. The likes of García, Lianne Lippert and Pauliena Rooijakkers briefly formed a dangerous group.

Later another dangerous group went up the road including Mareille Meijering, Flora Perkins, Francesca Barale, Monica Trinca Colonel, Silvia Persico, Ruth Edwards and Joscelin Lowden. In the final 20 kilometers to go a few riders began to bridge across, with chaos unfolding. Silvia Persico and Cédrine Kerbaol attacked from this group and built a solid advantage over the rest.

In the final ascent then Kerbaol had strong legs and managed to drop the Italian rider; and rode to a strong victory. Persico held on for third place whilst Lianne Lippert completed the podium.
