Carlos Rodríguez is developing into a brilliant stage-racer, and possibly INEOS Grenadiers strongest in upcoming years. The Spaniard was present at the Vuelta a Espana presentation las night and responded to the possibility of taking to the start once again.
“If everything goes well, I will start the year in the Clásica Jaen Paraiso Interior . This season I hope to take another step, win and be in the fight," Rodríguez told AS at the Vuelta presentation last night. "For the height of the season that it is, I feel pretty good. It is difficult to know how I will do later or not, but the important thing is that we are doing our homework well and with great enthusiasm."
Rodríguez won stage 14 of the Tour de France this year, taking advantage of a stalemate between Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard. This was a big step and he finished fifth in the overall classification. This was a step up from the previous year where he finished seventh at the Vuelta a España. At 22 years of age he develops into one of the leading GC figures in the peloton. His goals for the upcoming season were not widely discussed, but he has given insight that he will be racing the Tour de France once again - most likely teaming up with Tom Pidcock, whilst Geraint Thomas also returns to the Giro d'Italia.
“First we will have to finish the Tour, do the season and then we will see how the body is to do La Vuelta," he says, asked by his compatriots if he'll come back to his home Grand Tour. "It's something different. What it means is that there will be excitement until the end. As for the queen stage… I will say that it is Granada (stage 9, ed.)."
