Andrea Bagioli moves from Soudal - Quick-Step to Lidl-Trek into 2024

Lidl-Trek have signed their fourth Italian rider into 2024. After a few seasons with Soudal - Quick-Step, Andrea Bagioli is another figure leaving the Belgian team to find more opportunities and leadership with the American team.

“Andrea is a pure talent and we are more than happy to add him in our squad of ambitious young riders. He is a serious guy, a top-quality rider who, when he is on a good day, has already shown his competitiveness at the highest level," team manager Luca Guarcilena said in a press release. "He has the ideal profile for our sports project. We want to help him to grow, to improve and to become more solid in order to unlock his potential as the serial winner that is part of his rider DNA.”

The Italian has specialized as a puncheur and has seen his success come from hilly races. Having reached a bit of a plateau, the 24-year old looked to make a move in his still young career. "The future of this Team looks great, and although I had other interesting offers, I had no hesitation when I got the call from Luca [Guercilena] and Josu [Larrazabal]. I accepted with the utmost conviction, it’s a super exciting project," Bagioli said it himself.

“At this point in my career, after four important years with Soudal-Quickstep, it was time to try something different. I want to thank them for the opportunities they offered me. I built my experience step by step. I grew gradually and I got great results. But there is still a lot to work on, starting with the consistency in my performances. A factor I want to improve in the new chapter of my career with Lidl-Trek."

Although he has not often features in the mainstage Bagioli has throughout the past years reeled in some interesting results, including the Drôme Classic in 2021, a stage at the Volta a Catalunya last year, and most recently winning the final stage of the Tour de Wallonie just a few weeks. He's finished on the Top10 of the Brabantse Pijl, Amstel Gold Race and Clásica San Sebastian over the past few months showing his competitiveness among the best.

“My main goal is to win the trust of team and teammates so that I can enjoy more freedom in the races that suit me best, without forgetting to be part of a team contribution, one of Lidl-Trek’s strong points. The ambition is to win soon a classic in the Ardennes, my favorite races, and a stage in one of the three Grand Tours," he concluded.
