The move is finally official. After six seasons with his home team from Bretagne, Arkéa Samsic,
Warren Barguil is returning to the team where he's experienced the most success,
Team DSM-Firmenich.
There he has turned professional, won two stages at the 2013 Vuelta a Espana where he had a breakthrough, and experienced tremendous success at the 2017 Tour de France where he won the KOM jersey and two big mountain stages, directly beating some of the world's best climbers at the time. He looked for a move away from pressure at the time and in the French outfit he focused on the hilly and cobbled one-day races, but maintains ambitions elsewhere.
After the departure of Nairo Quintana due to his repeated positives for tramadol, Arkéa saw Barguil essentially become it's headline name this season as they jumped to World Tour level, but that will be no more from 2024 onwards. As the team signed Arnaud Démare they have a new leader, whilst the 31-year old signed a three-year deal with the Dutch team.
There he will team up with Romain Bardet who is a rider who follows a similar way of racing and has similar capacities, also loving aggressive racing and the hilly days. He will also be providing experience for the likes of youngsters Max Poole and Oscar Onley who are also signed with the team until 2026.
