Deceuninck will end its partnership as title sponsor of
Alpecin-Deceuninck
at the end of 2025, leaving team boss Christoph Roodhooft with the task of
securing a new sponsor. The Belgian company, which specialises in PVC windows
and doors, joined the Roodhooft brothers’ team at the start of 2022 after
previously being the primary sponsor of Patrick Lefevere’s Quick-Step team for
three years.
Since then, Alpecin-Deceuninck has transformed into one of
the most dominant sprint teams in the peloton, driven by the combination of Mathieu
van der Poel’s lead-outs and
Jasper Philipsen’s finishing speed.
During
Deceuninck’s sponsorship, Philipsen has claimed nine Tour de France stage
victories and won the green jersey, while Van der Poel has cemented his status
as the king of the monuments and became world champion in 2023.
The decision to part ways was framed as a natural conclusion
to a successful collaboration. Francis Van Eeckhout, executive chairman of
Deceuninck,
explained in a press release, "The successful collaboration
has delivered the desired results for the company in terms of brand awareness.
In consultation with the team management, we have come to the conclusion that
we can continue to strengthen each other in another form of collaboration."
While the departure of a major sponsor creates uncertainty, General
Manager Philip Roodhooft remains focused on securing a new partner. "Of
course this creates a challenge for us as a team, but we were informed in time
and we are doing everything we can to attract a solid second name partner
again. The gratitude for their commitment is much greater than the
disappointment of the decision to take a step back."
