Adam Blythe believes
Remco Evenepoel is “untouchable” after his specular performance in the ninth stage of
Vuelta a Espana.
Evenepoel leads GC with 1 minute and 12 seconds lead over
Primoz Roglic. Blythe believes the gap is significant and will continue to increase. “It's very big indeed, and that’s before we’ve got to the time trial, which is arguably Remco’s strongest event within this Grand Tour.”
He also said Roglic will have to try his best in the ITT stage on Tuesday to stay in competition against Evenepoel, which may be quite challenging considering time trial is a strong point of Evenepoel. “There will be some riders who lose time but not as much, but there will be riders such as Mas who I think will lose quite a bit of time in that time trial compared to Roglic and Remco,” Blythe said.
Blythe also predicts that if the situation does not change soon, Remco may win his first grand tour. “I think if Remco keeps going the way he is, he just looks untouchable at the minute. He hasn’t shown any signs of weakness, and his team hasn’t either,” concluded Blythe.
