- amen.
i’ve been following pro cycling for about 40 years, and van der poel is my favorite rider ever for a bunch of reasons, but this little article sums it up pretty well —that part of him that goes out tilting at windmills…
- Also, besides the first incident, there are two more respectless moves in the last 500. He sits behind one rider for a long while and seeing a train move up goes to overtake on the right before cutting across him to the left too early so forcing that rider to veer, then in the train, he doubles down by forcing the guy right by his right to veer right off his line when he decides he wants to try to move up. That’s 3 incidents where he put others around him in danger in less than 500m because he was badly positioned, and considering he’s no lightweight, he has not only a distinct advantage when it comes to shouldering, he also doesn’t have to be too worried about whether it will be him or the other guy falling faster. The fact he doesn’t see why he got the penalty (not even a harsch one) after the recent racing incident is a bad sign..
- The high mountains will tell the tale.
- No, the problem is that people are too lazy to actually go find the information that’s available and just sit around hoping someone is going to do it for them. You obviously can’t count on the complaining perpetrator to reveal ALL as it would make his complaining look silly and vulnerable. The jury PUBLISHES the reasons every time, if the rider (who knows this) or the relayer (who should) doesn’t include all the details, it’s probably for a reason. Knowing people’s reasons? Well, that’s the tricky part.
So, the cause was obstruction of a competitor, and by putting 2&2 together it’s likely to have been MVDP just a few 100m after the flamme rouge. As for the image/video evidence that’s quite easy to find, I’ll let you go search for it yourself, especially as it’s pretty tricky to publish here, it’s pretty clear to me, and in light of the JP crash, quite understandable they’re being strict in order to make riders understand they can also make sure we don’t even get racing incidents.
- I don't doubt this, we'll see in about an hour how Tadej goes with Jonas.
- They are trying to build. We all know Tadej is the opposite of a bully.
- I was a little surprised that Maika didn’t make the squad - he’s always been super in the mountains
- The problem here is that the UCI hasn't explained the reason for the deduction. The whole point of such deductions is to make sure riders learn what is unacceptable (using the deduction as a form of 'punishment'). How is Jonathan supposed to learn what he did wrong if the UCI doesn't even tell him what he did wrong?!
- I hope they slow down a bit because the average speed this year is waaaaay off the chart, riding like it’s a classic every day.
- The fact he announced Vuelta can be interpreted both ways, impossible to read into it. Like when you see a lot of alcohol in someone’s home, is it an alcoholic or someone who doesn’t really drink?
