Tom Pidcock despite his small size in comparison to his rivals
Mathieu van der Poel and
Wout van Aert showed again that size doesn't matter much when you have a lot of talent and skills in Diegem.
"I was leading and maybe got a bit too relaxed, and then Wout crossed me again, just before that last bridge. At that moment, when he went up the steps, I knew it was over", stated the British at the flash interview after his amazing end of race duel with van Aert.
The British despite never loosing ground to his rivals, dropping Van der Poel with van Aert and having a duel on the razor's edge, with him didn't seem to be tired "To be honest, I think this was the easiest race of the three" he stated.
A clear contrast to the statements of his rivals since Van Aert said "this can't be healthy" and Van der Poel regretted "not having legs".
That climb we only went full up three times (out of eight, end.) because of the headwind. There was a lot of looking at each other there" stated the young British talent about the difficulties of the race.
Another surprise was his very good performance on the sand sector a terrain where Pidcock previously admitted having difficulties. "During practice I rode on the right, but I looked at the women and saw they were riding on the left. So I decided to do the same. It worked, because I went through well" stated Pidcock, about his strategy for that terrain.
