Supporting Jonas Vingegaard to win a second
Tour de France and winning stages are the goal for
Wout van Aert this July. It is an ambitious and busy month that lays ahead for the Belgian who is also eyeing the World Championships.
"When I was a kid, I wanted to be a professional cyclo-cross rider and win a cyclo-cross race in my hometown, just like my heroes," van Aert said in a press release, regarding the release of the team's jersey named 'The Vélodrome'. "My dream came true in 2016 when I won the Belgian championship in my hometown of Lille. It inspires me to keep dreaming and pursue my goals.”
Van Aert, who won three stages and the green jersey last year, has talked about how he was exhausted the weeks following the Tour last year, and with the Glasgow Worlds only two weeks after the arrival at Champs-Elysées, he is opting for a more conservative approach to the Grand Boucle.
Van Aert will be a contender to take the yellow jersey on the opening day and will also have several stages where he will be one of the main contenders. It is also quite possible that he will leave the Tour at some point as he is expecting the birth of his second child during the last half of the race.
