Jumbo-Visma had a dream 2022 Tour de France. To replicate it would be a very tough task, however team DS Merijn Zeeman understands that and he puts forward that the team's ambitions are more modest, yet challenging this summer.
"We exceeded our wildest dreams last year with six stage victories, the polka dot jersey, and most importantly, the green and yellow jersey. This year we are dreaming big too. Our ambition is to bring the yellow jersey back to Paris," Zeeman told in a press release. "We have a super strong team led by our leader Jonas Vingegaard, and we believe in our plan. Winning the Giro has been a dream come true for us this season. Our riders are prepared for a double at the Tour.”
Besides Steven Kruijswijk who crashed out of the Criterium du Dauphiné, the Dutch team seems to arrive perfectly at the Tour. Wilco Kelderman, who replaced the veteran, had already been training with the team in May, and the eight-man lineup covers all bases, whilst putting all it's focus in the support of Jonas Vingegaard.
Whilst Sepp Kuss and Wilco Kelderman will be in charge of the main support in the mountains, the Dane will have the company of the full classics block as well in Wout van Aert, Tiesj Benoot, Dylan van Baarle, Christophe Laporte and Nathan van Hooydonck, who will surely be able to support him in any situation that could be unexpected.
