Wilco Kelderman only joined
Jumbo-Visma this year, but has only ridden Tirreno-Adriatico in 2023, which he did not finish due to a fall and additional pelvic injury. The 32-year old Dutch will return to competition at
Tour de Suisse in mid-June.
Kelderman's pelvic injury send him on a road to recovery and eventually saw Kelderman removed from the Giro d'Italia selection. "At Jumbo-Visma they want to go to all major rounds with the best possible selection," he tells Wielerverhaal. "Recovering from that injury to my pelvis took a little longer than expected. I didn't make it to the altitude training for the Giro."
Kelderman is on the reserve list for Tour de France. He says he understands that. "Then the team management has to deviate from the original plan. Sepp Kuss knows what to do for Jonas Vingegaard in the Tour. He has so much class that he can handle two Grand Tours in quick succession," he refers to the participation of Kuss, who replaced Kelderman at Giro d'Italia. "If he comes out of the Giro too tired, I will make sure that I am ready for Tour. But I don't expect to replace him."
However there is a good chance we well get to see the Dutch climber at La Vuelta. "To get a good classification in the Vuelta, I really have to be at a high level. Going to Spain with the best possible team is my ambition. Perhaps Roglic will also be our leader there."
