After having to settle for the runners up spot on the
Paris-Nice podium for the second time in three stages, Groupama-FDJ's
David Gaudu was trying to stay positive.
"I tried, I had really good feelings. Considering how the team works around me, it's really gratifying," said the 26-year-old Frenchman following the conclusion of Stage 7. "It's a shame, I'm sorry for not being able to bring back a victory, I'm still 2nd. It's 2nd behind Pogacar."
Indeed, as
Tadej Pogacar rode to a brilliant stage win, increasing his overall lead in the general classification, Gaudu was putting time into all other rivals. The Frenchman currently lies 2nd on GC, 12 seconds behind Pogacar but 46 seconds ahead of
Jonas Vingegaard.
"We're making up time on the contenders for the podium, it's good for the general classification," said Gaudu. "I shouldn't be afraid to attack. We tried, unfortunately it didn't didn't work. On the sprint, he was always stronger, there is really no photo, again."
