Stage 4 of the 2023
Giro d'Italia saw a drama-filled day of racing. A chaotic opening, the first abandonment of the race and a new Maglia Rosa, the stage had plenty to keep fans entertained.
With the day's breakaway taking around 80km to finally snap the elastic, a seven-rider group was able to eventually go free. Best placed in the general classification was Team DSM rider
Andreas Leknessund and on the final climb of the day the Norwegian attacked to try and ensure he would take the race lead.
Aurélien Paret-Peintre followed him and in the battle for the stage win it was the Frenchman who took the victory. As the clock began counting,
Remco Evenepoel, safely in the peloton came home over two minutes down meaning Leknessund was the new race leader.
