A truly dramatic day at the
Giro d'Italia before a pedal had even been turned, stage 13 saw plenty of excitement once the shortened and delayed stage finally got under way.
With the attacks coming straight from the flag drop,
Thibaut Pinot looked to have a fire in his belly. Reaching the final climb of the day clear alongside
Einer Rubio and
Jefferson Alexander Cepeda, Pinot wasn't content with riding together and made repeated attacks. Perhaps burning his matches too soon however, the Frenchman in the final Giro d'Italia of his career, was heartbroken in the finale as Rubio made the decisive move, taking his first Grand Tour stage win in brilliant fashion.
