After riding both the
Tour de France and the Vuelta a Espana this year,
Mads Pedersen is set to double up again 2023, this time riding a Giro-Tour double. With
Trek - Segafredo announcing the decision was made "on Mads' own request."
Having previously won stages at both the Tour and the Vuelta, Pedersen will be looking to join a select list of riders to have completed the set of Grand Tour victories. Going into the Giro, the Dane will surely be one of the favourites to win the points classification, with Trek recently announcing him as their team leader for the race.
Trek-Segafredo's sports director Steven De Jongh spoke to In de Leiderstrui, admitting that Pedersen's insistence was the driving factor and revealing that it was something the sprinter had planned long before the Giro's route was even announced: "He had that idea before the routes of the races were known."
