Tour de Romandie: Patrick Bevin wins bunch sprint finale on stage three

Israel - Premier Tech have taken an important win, as Patrick Bevin sprinted to the win on stage three of the Tour de Romandie. It was a hilly day, which saw moves from the general classification contenders, but they were to no profit in the end.

Only three riders went up the road on what was the fourth day of racing in Switzerland, however they made for a strong group with Rémi Cavagna (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team), Nans Peters (AG2R Citroën Team) and Krists Neilands (Israel - Premier Tech).

The trio rode well, but has faced rigorous chasing from Jumbo-Visma and INEOS Grenadiers. Peters and Cavagna survived until the penultimate ascent, where the peloton rode mostly compact. In the final ascent the pace wasn't hard at the base, and an attack by Carlos Verona saw no immediate response and threatened the stage. Several riders went up the road near the summit, but all moves were cancelled by each other, and the peloton quickly regrouped towards the finale.

A move by Rein Taaramae resisted into the final kilometer, but a sprint was inevitable. Mauro Schmid led it out, Patrick Bevin and Ethan Hayter went head to head in the fight for the stage win but the Kiwi took the best out of yesterday's winner. Race leader Rohan Dennis sprinted to third place, taking some important bonus seconds to extend his lead.
