Tom Pidcock mentally fatigued after busy few months but relieved to see that “the end is in sight"

After an incredibly busy first few months of 2023 that has included wins in Cyclocross, Road Cycling and most recently on the Mountain Bike, Tom Pidcock has admitted to feeling mentally fatigued.

“After this race I will take a short break, after which I will build up again towards the Tour de France," Pidcock said prior to his win on Friday's mountain bike race in Nové Město in the Czech Republic. "Although mountain biking helps me to become mentally fresher, I notice that the end is in sight. I've been training since mid-January, which is a lot longer than usual. Mentally I feel tired.”

The INEOS Grenadiers rider has had a relatively successful year so far. On the road, the 23-year-old took a brilliant victory at Strade-Bianche and a first monument podium of his career, finishing in second place at Liege-Bastogne-Liege behind the eventual winner, Soudal - Quick-Step's Remco Evenepoel.

Whilst Evenepoel is currently battling it out for the Maglia Rosa at the Giro d'Italia, Pidcock is keen to return to the Tour de France. A race where he famously took victory atop Alpe d'Huez last year and the Brit admits that a potential, future attempt to win the Yellow Jersey is something he has considered. “I always wanted to win the World Championship or the Tour de France," he admits.
