“Today is more of a sprint that is tailor-made for me. We are going for it again" - Fabio Jakobsen upbeat despite disappointing Giro sprint showings

With Fabio Jakobsen unable to really contest for the victory in the first two bunch sprints of the 2024 Giro d'Italia, the 27-year-old Dutchman will try again for the win on stage 5.

“This tough start to the Giro is far from ideal and these two stages were not pure bunch sprints. But this is also part of cycling. It's not that I'm very far away, but not super close either," the Team DSM-Firmenich PostNL sprinter tells De Telegraaf, after a 22nd-placed finish on stage 4 in the bunch sprint won by Jonathan Milan. "It's a shame that it didn't work out these two days and I'm disappointed about that. However, I am not one to hang my head.”

Having won stages of both the Vuelta a Espana and the Tour de France in the past, Jakobsen is searching for a Giro d'Italia stage to join the elite list of riders to have completed the set of Grand Tour stages. Despite an early climb on stage 5, could the Dutchman be better placed to battle for the win this Wednesday afternoon?

“Today is more of a sprint that is tailor-made for me," Jakobsen previews optimistically ahead of the stage. "We are going for it again."
