Jumbo-Visma's time-trial world champion Tobias Foss may have narrowly missed out on taking the victory on the opening prologue of the Tour de Romandie, but after a rough couple of weeks, he's just happy to back racing.
"It's always tough. I didn't have the best last two weeks. I struggled with the stomach flu," Foss revealed post-stage to Cycling Pro Net. “It was a clean opener. It was looking for the right rhythm, and I was coached very well from the car. I know I can compete with the best so that always motivates me. Unfortunately, I didn't have that extra bit."
Despite seemingly lacking that little bit extra, Foss took a very respectable second place on the day, just 0.29 seconds behind the eventual winner, Soudal - Quick-Step's Josef Cerny. "It's never nice to lose with such a small difference," the Norwegian admits. "But I gave everything and I'm happy with that. There will be another time trial, which suits me a lot better."
“I have to tighten up my form a bit towards the Giro because of illness. My main goal is to train well for a week and to have a course in my legs," he continues. "I will not let myself be released on purpose, but the ambitions are not great outside the time trials."
