With a smile from ear to ear and with his son on his lap
Primoz Roglic was very clear about how he felt after winning the
Volta a Catalunya 2023: "Happy". The
Jumbo-Visma rider survived the attacks of Remco Evenepoel on the final day of the race and has earned his victory.
The Slovenian rider, winner of 2 stages during the Spanish race (plus 3 second places) finished ahead of Remco Evenepoel by just six seconds and finished behind him on the final stage in Barcelona.
On the Belgian's attacks he commented: "It's been a crazy, hard day and today I was expecting another day like that. My team was great, keeping me in position and I had the legs. It's been a great week and now we can celebrate."
On the Giro d'Italia, he hopes he and Remco can continue to put on a show: "I hope so (he laughed, ed.), it's been fun, I've enjoyed it". On winning one of the oldest stage races on the international calendar, the Slovenian was delighted:
"Winning the Volta means a lot, it's something I was missing in my palmares and to be part of its history and be part of its winners is a great honor, thanks to the team for helping me."
The Tour de Suisse is the final big World Tour stage-race that the Slovenian is left to take an overall victory in, and most likely that will soon become a target for Roglic.
