"It was a nice fight with Primoz" - Remco Evenepoel wins second stage as he leaves Volta a Catalunya with good feelings

Remco Evenepoel ended up winning the last stage of the Volta a Catalunya, but had to settle for second place in the overall classification. This is what he said after the race.

"I feel very happy, it was very hard, I knew it was going to be complicated to leave Primoz in a stage like this, we showed that we were the strongest. My team took a lot of responsibility from the start, I think we deserved the victory, it was a nice fight with Primoz and I'm happy to have beaten him in the sprint," he said in a post-race interview.

He was questioned if he was surprised that Primoz Roglic had resisted the attacks: "Sure, it's Primoz Roglic, he's one of the best cyclists in the world and he's in very good shape. When he's in good form he might be the best rider in the world and I knew that if anyone was going to follow me it was going to be him."

"And, as I said, it's easier to defend a jersey than to attack for it. Great week for him and I'm very happy to have won this great stage in Barcelona". He finished by making it clear that he had achieved the goals he had set for himself before the race.

"I came here with the intention of winning a stage and finishing on the podium so in the end finishing second overall by six seconds is almost the same thing. If we saw how strong we were compared to the rest, one of us was going to win this beautiful race. We showed that we were the strongest team this week," Evenepoel concluded.
