Whilst the 2023
Tour de France route has only recently been revealed, the work in the background continues for the upcoming editions. The Grand Depart location for 2024 is already known, but details emerge over what the riders will face in Italy.
In an interview with tuttobiciweb Alberto Cirio, the governor of Piedmont, has further detailed how the start of the 2024 Tour de France will look like: “Piedmont will continue to host major events. After all, I can tell you that the Tour de France will come over our roads. In terms of visibility, the Tour de France is the biggest sporting event in the world. The 2024 edition will pass through Piemonte, with Turin and Pinerolo as important stage cities. I can't say more at the moment…”
The internationalization of the Tour has further increased in recent years. Whilst the 2023 Tour will begin in the Basque Country in Spain, 2025 is rumoured to be disputed between Rotterdam and The Hague in the Netherlands, whilst Ireland and Great Britain are said to be working towards hosting the race's start in 2026 or 2027.
The 2024 Tour will start in the Italian city of Florence and travel northwest all the way into the border with France. It has been reported earlier this year that the riders will cross into France on the fourth stage, which will have it's start in Pinerolo.
