Speaking afterwards to Cycling Pro Net, Eulalio admitted he was not sure before the stage whether he would still be in pink at the end of the day. “I don’t know, but now I have it for sure,” he said. “We are going to continue enjoying it.”
Eulalio survives biggest Giro test yet
Eulalio’s ride was not spectacular in the context of the stage result, but it was enough for the general classification. The Portuguese rider reached the finish knowing the Maglia Rosa had stayed on his shoulders, despite Vingegaard steadily reducing the gap across the course.
Stage 10 now becomes another important marker in Eulalio’s unexpected Giro spell. He had already defended the jersey through the first mountain tests, including Vingegaard’s victories on Blockhaus and Corno alle Scale. The time trial was a very different challenge, but once again he found enough to stay in front.
Asked if he was satisfied with his performance and whether he had expected to ride so strongly, Eulalio pointed to the jersey itself. “I don’t know,” he said. “For sure, it is the pink jersey that is giving me some strength, no?”
That line captures where his Giro now stands. Eulalio remains under pressure, and Vingegaard is only 27 seconds behind, but the longer he stays in pink, the more this run becomes something more than an early-race surprise.

Vingegaard closes in but pink stays with Bahrain
The GC picture is now tighter than ever. Vingegaard remains the obvious favourite after taking nearly two minutes back on Stage 10, but Eulalio has carried the jersey through another major threat and will start the next stage still leading the Giro.
Behind them, Thymen Arensman was the big mover of the day, finishing second on the stage behind Ganna and climbing to third overall. That reshaped the podium fight, but the main story remained Eulalio’s survival act against Vingegaard.
The Bahrain Victorious rider knows the race is still far from settled. With two weeks still to come, he framed his defence of the Maglia Rosa as a day-by-day battle rather than a long-term claim of control. “We are going to continue fighting for the jersey day by day and we will see what more we can do,” Eulalio said.
For now, that is enough. Vingegaard has moved closer, the margin has shrunk, and the pressure will only grow from here. But after the Giro’s longest and only time trial, Eulalio is still in pink.
