The
Tour de Pologne had it's start yesterday in Lublin, where
Bahrain - Victorious were active and
Phil Bauhaus came close to achieving a strong win after a disappointing Tour de France for the squad.
“I think we did really well today – everything was controlled for the bunch sprint, with Filip chasing down the breakaway and Jonathan & Heino at the end leading me out. They did a really great pull in the front," Bauhaus said in a post-race interview. Although the likes of Arnaud Démare, Mark Cavendish and Sam Bennett were present, neither could perform like Bauhaus before the decisive meters, and the German powerhouse was in range of taking his second win of the season.
"Then Heino for the last 700 or 800 metres so I could follow the Jumbo guys," he explained. Bauhaus sprinted to the win, but could not go through eventual winner Olav Kooij in the finish, although he seemed to have the speed to just barely be able to overturn the Dutchman.
"I came close, and I was gaining metres on Kooij, but in the end, the finish line came a bit too early for me. The legs are good in the group so that’s nice to see, and we hope to do a perfect result in the coming days," he concluded. Today will be another opportunity, where Bauhaus will be hoping he can take the result he missed out on yesterday.
