"The car was too close, but I don't think the moment lasted too long" - Tadej Pogacar plays down Amstel Gold Race slipstream controversy

Amstel Gold Race winner, Tadej Pogacar has moved quickly to play down the growing social media controversy over the seeming slipstream advantage gifted to him in the race's finale.

During the run-in to the finish line at the Amstel Gold Race, Tadej Pogacar was doing a solo time-trial to victory when the car of race director Leo van Vliet lingered in front of the UAE Team Emirates man giving him the benefit of slipstream in the battle with the cashing Ben Healy and Tom Pidcock.

“I don't like it,” the Slovenian says of the situation. “But this happens all the time when they are in the head of the race. They pass, they sink back again. That's how it always goes in the race. I can't do much about it. I can only cycle as fast as possible. The car was too close, but I don't think the moment lasted too long," Pogacar concludes.
