Georg Steinhauser is counting down the days until his long-awaited Tour de France debut. The 24-year-old German, who claimed a breakthrough stage victory at the 2024 Giro d'Italia, hopes to animate the race from breakaways and become one of the most combative riders of the race. While he is looking forward to experiencing the unique atmosphere of the Tour, he admits there is one tradition he could do without: the pyrotechnics that often accompany mountain-stage crowds.

A dream becoming reality

After impressing throughout the season, Steinhauser is preparing for his first appearance at the Tour de France and says the significance of the occasion is not lost on him.
“I’m hugely looking forward to my start at the Tour de France. That will be a moment I will never forget in my career,” he said in an interview.
Although Steinhauser is excited to experience the Tour's famous roadside atmosphere, he joked that one aspect of it is less appealing. “I always find pyrotechnics a bit annoying. You're already out of breath enough,” he said with a laugh.
Despite that minor complaint, he expects the crowds on the biggest mountain stages to create an unforgettable experience.
“It's an incredible feeling when you ride through those crowds. You're being screamed at from the left and the right, screamed up the mountain. The atmosphere is a huge part of cycling, and I'm really looking forward to that!”

Steinhauser only has 1 professional victory, but what a victory that was!

Confidence after a breakthrough season

Steinhauser announced himself on the international stage with a Giro d'Italia stage victory in 2024 and has continued his progress this season with strong climbing performances.
At Paris-Nice 2026, only Jonas Vingegaard and former Giro d'Italia runner-up Daniel Martínez finished ahead of him in the mountains, a result that boosted his confidence heading into cycling's biggest races. “That was very good for my self-confidence.”
Now, the talented climber hopes to build on that momentum by making his mark in his first Tour de France.
