Tadej Pogacar didn't go down without a fight and upon reaching Paris he still put on a few attacks and led out in the final kilometer to bring to a end his fourth Tour de France. One where he has made history as the first four-time winner of the youth classification, and sitting for the second time in second place behind Jonas Vingegaard.
"I can be satisfied considering everything that happened in this Tour, despite of course the fast that my desire was to win. It has been an amazing Tour for me and for my team," Pogacar said in Paris. "I'm super happy to be in Paris on the podium, and in white one more time. So yeah: thank you all, and goodbye to my beloved white jersey… I’m not young anymore! I knew sooner or later I would have days like this, moments like this. It is not the last time I will feel I am past my limit."
The Slovenian has concluded three weeks of very hard work, two of them he was very close to the lead of the race, but on the third week he was no match for Jonas Vingegaard who had a very consistent race. Pogacar cracked on the Col de la Loze and lost the chance to fight for victory, but held on for second place in the Alpine stage, eventually having his best legs back and winning stage 20 to Le Markstein.
It was another three-week battle against Vingegaard and Jumbo-Visma, another one which he could not win, but came out of it with good moments. "I can learn something from this. For the future, I know better what I can expect from myself. We are racing a beautiful sport. We push each other to the limit. This an era we can all cherish and be happy about, because the racing is great. But yeah – this is just a bike race, and we just have to enjoy every moment we can have."
