Remco Evenepoel riding to victory on stage 2 of the 2026 Volta a Comunitat Valenciana
Remco Evenepoel has won stage 2 of the Volta a Comunitat Valenciana. The time trial on the second day of racing was always going to put the World Champion in the favourite position, however the times on the day were not counted as the strong wind on the road has meant that the times were neutralized.
Something which the riders already knew could happen the day before, but it nevertheless did not prevent a chaotic situation. In the morning it was reported that the riders would be competing in road bikes; and then afterwards race organizers decided to neutralize the stage in terms of time. There would still be a stage winner, however Biniam Girmay would maintain the yellow jersey.
This, combined with timing issues by the organizers, led to a chaotic afternoon where it wasn't always clear who had which times at the finish. However the outcome was the expected one, as even on the road bikes, there was no stopping Remco Evenepoel. The Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe has taken his third individual win of the season in Valencia, riding the ecourse at an average speed of 51Km/h. The course featured some small amount of climbing and descending.
He beat Aleksandr Vlasov and Mathias Vacek when it comes to the stage results, with 8 and 15 seconds of gap respectively, however these times will not be taken into consideration for the rest of the race, and the GC contenders will go tied in time into the three hilly days of the race.
