Stage 2 of the Volta a Comunitat Valenciana has been neutralized due to the strong wind that is affecting the course. This means there will be a stage winner, but no gaps on what may have been considered the queen stage of the Spanish race.
The second day of racing would see Biniam Girmay in the yellow jersey - after he won the opening sprint stage, which also saw Mads Pedersen crash out - attempting to defend the race lead in a 17-kilometer long hilly time trial from Carlet to Alginet, just south of the city of Valencia.
It was going to be an important day for the overall classification, with big differences likely to be created, even amongst the favourites as Remco Evenepoel is at the start, and was expected to create time gaps into his most direct rivals. The likes of João Almeida and Brandon McNulty were also to riders to keep an eye on.
This changes the outlook of the overall classification fully, with the race lacking a mountain stage or summit finish; but instead a set of explosive stages. There will still be a stage winner on the day, although riders will be racing with road bikes on the day, due to the danger of the strong winds sweeping out time trial bikes.

Statement from the race organizers

"As a result of the safety protocol meeting, comprising the various departments previously communicated, and following a thorough analysis of the situation and the conditions under which the stage will be conducted, the decision has been taken to proceed with the start in accordance to the planned route".
"Nevertheless, it has been agreed that the times recorded will not count towards the general classification. The stage will have a stage winner, and the corresponding podium ceremony will be held in accordance with the established protocol".
