The race is one for the puncheurs and climbers, although none are favoured over the other. The peloton will face climbs of different lengths and gradients throughout the entire day and plenty opportunities for attacks. There are 3400 meters of climbing throughout the day and important attacks can come at any time. However are there three climbs quite close to the finish which are often used for this purpose.
The race can see it's decisive attacks earlier, but a final selection regardless of the scenario is likely to happen in the final sequence of climbs. They are 4km at 5.4%, 1.6km at 4.6% and 600 meters at 10%. All of these ascents summit in extremely quick succession within the final 10 kilometers and lead into the downhill finish in Estella; one of the most unique in the pro peloton.
